| Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy |
| Welcome , future Jedi. |
You have been choosen among many to be trained in the new Jedi Academy set up by Luke Skywalker. You will be trained directly under Kyle Katarn, our hero from Jedi Knights 1 & 2.
The game begins by letting you shape your own character. Choose from more than just human race, you can be one of those alien you see in the movie. Unfortunately, being different in race does not provide additional skills or benefits. I was hoping some race are stronger, smarter or faster, just like those seen in Elf or Dwarf. So all you can expect here is how you look, and not how to progress.
As usual, you were called upon by the Academy to perform tasks to ensure the safety of the universe. In some missions, you fight alone, others where Master Kyle will assist you in facing difficurt situation.
In this FPS installment, you get the same weapon arsenal from the pervious ones. All expect for the enchanement of your lightsaber. This time, your get to choose how your lightsaber handle looks like and the color of the beam. Best of all, you can choose to wield the standard single lightsaber, or you can wield two lightsabers as Anakin in Episode 2, or double-bladed one like Darth Maul. Each type of wielding style comes attached which a set of martial art moves. So be prepared to fight like Darth Maul.
As usual, the force is with you. Choose powers form the light side or the dark side, from both if you have to. The powers you choose will determine the side you are inclined to, and the amount of force energy needed for the powers.
Almost all Jedi related games has it: the chance to turn to the dark side. In an event of your best friend lured to dark side, you have a choice to take over his place or bring him back over to the light side. The decision leads to different ending of the story and the ultimate enermy that you will face at the end of game.
To me, this is the only game that stands out among the FPS titles. Not necessary the best, but you don't get to use lightsaber in other titles. In fact, when you play Jedi Academy, you hardly use any other weapon! |
