| Total Recall of the Red Planet. |
"Mars, I always though of it as a romantic place, planet of mysteries and adventures. Came here six months ago thinking it would be an escape from Earth, I wanted sometime to think, to figure out what to do with my life. A year in the Ultor mines sounded like a great way to straighten myself out, man, was I a fool..."
Not a great way to start your day? Well most story plots start in the downturn of someone's life. In this case, it reminds me of the movie Total Recall starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. The same red planet of Mars, the same corporation that practice dictatorship who has no respect of employees' lifes, and of course the same hero that joins the rebel force to overthrow the tyranny.
Red Faction revolutionizes gaming with Geo-Mod technology, the ability to completely alter and destory the environment in real-time. In simple terms, you can bring down pillars, make huge holes in walls or forcing entries around barriers with explosive weapon shells. There were many occasions whereby I need to blast through walls to get around reinforced gates, or just widening gaps in walls that were too low for access. This feature also works against you if you are not careful. Once when I was being chased by a guardbot with missile launchers, I hid behind a wall to reload my weapon, but before I know it, the guardbot blast a hole in the wall at where I was standing and gun me down!
You also get to pilot/drive 5 types of vehicles, air, land and sea. When playing difficulty level of medium, you will find enough ammos in most case, and in some parts of the game you will lose everthing. So don't bother to save up your ammos, you will get plenty of them.
Good graphics, good soundtracks and smooth gameplay with challenging enemy AI. Fair length of gameplay, a must to play in these months of low game releases. |
