Freelancer
Freelancer would be the RPG-SCI-FI-flightsim version of Diablo.
Experience a vast, open-ended universe filled with an infinite number of adventures. You are the freelancer Edison Trent, an intergalactic jack-of-all-trades. Your mission: whatever you want. Become a smuggler or a ruthless space thug, a naval hero or a trader. Dodge through asteroid fields while piloting elite spacecraft.

This game could be the Diablo for SCI-FI flight simulator. You play as a pilot who had just taken on a profession of a freelance self-employed. You begin as a nobody, you are friendly to most of the legal and government bodies, and hostile to a few known criminal groups, but things are going to change. You start with the worse ship before your first mission from your newly acquired friend Juni from tht Liberty Navy. Work your career upwards by doing mining, trading, or go on missions to take out criminals. Earn credits to upgrade your ship and weapon arsenal to challenge greater threats.

There are many factions in the universe, you can be friendly to some of them, but will definitely anger their enemies as well making them hostile towards you. Well you just can't please everyone, do you? Each factions have their own different range of weapons and ships, and you need to please them enough to enter their bases/planets to buy them.

The engine is none that was ever seen before. The map of the universe is huge with more than 50 systems to explore, I estimated the time needed to travel (just plain travelling, no action) from one corner of the universe to the other would be about half an hour. Almost every system has its own unique backdrop. Planets and Suns are no longer plain images of the backdrops, they actually enlarge as you move towards them, and if you move close enough you'll crash into them.

The gameplay has been simplified for players that hate or never played filghtsim, joystick is no longer needed (veteran players complain about no-joystick), and mouse to used to control both the flying and shooting of the guns and turrets.

The graphics and sounds are fantastic, and the best part is that I was able to push everything to the limit with just my P3 and Geforce2 system without loosing much graphic details.

A great game not to be missed, SCI-FI fans or not, you should try this game out. This maybe the only title to revivie SCI-FI flightsim with a touch of RPG.
