| C&C: Renegade |
| "I got a present for you!" |
You have seen the GDI commando in action in the C&C game from above, now you can play as one from his point of view. Captain Nick "Havoc" Parker is the name, and demolition is his game. You may think that bringing down a Nod base or a Power plant is as easy as it looked from above, you are dead wrong. Before you can plant your C-4 onto the mainframe of any building structure, you need to clear all the units that stands it your way or die trying.
They newly developed 3D engine, features every cool graphics but terrible high demand on your PC. With resolution 1024x768 running at 16-bit colors, my game jerks so I have to downgrade to 800x600 in order enjoy the game smoothly. The engine also treats single player mode like multiplayer mode. You will see weapons, armors, and medikits spinning on the spot. Not very realistic if you ask me, no way you can miss them. The maps are well designed, from mountains to villages to villas to fortresses to underground labs. As for the ground units, the AI is rather poor. No matter how you fire at them, they just keep running to you... in straight lines!
The missions are fairly simple and predictable, most of secondary objectives are quite useless in aiding you towards the primary ones. In short, you can skip most of the secondary missions to save time.
The game features 23 weapons at your disposal. My all-time favorite is the Laser Chaingun, sounds cool? Not when compared to the slower firing rate but more powerful Mini Ion Cannon. And the next coolest thing would be to drive most of the vehicles you see in C&C. Not only will you get to drive GDI vehicles like Hamvee, Medium Tank, and Mammoth Tank. You also get Nod to have a taste at their own medicine like Nod Buggy, Flame Tank, and Light Tank. Pity you don't get to fly around.
For those who are the fans of C&C, or enjoy the game a lot, you will easily relates most of the stuffs you see in Renegade. A game worth spending your time on. |
